Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce isomalto-oligosaccharide by treating dextran with Arthrobacter japonicus which is a novel strain belonging to Arthrobacter genus and capable of forming exo-type dextranase. CONSTITUTION:A novel bacterial strain, Arthrobacter japonicus belonging to Arthrobacter genus and capable of forming exo-type dextranase is separated. A concrete example of the strain is Arthrobacter japonicus SAM 0094 (FERM P-9341). Arthrobacter japonicus reacts with dextran and produces dextranase capable of forming isomalto-oligosaccharide. Isomalto-oligosaccharide can be produced as a main enzymatic reaction product by reacting dextran with dextranase.
