記第２段ガス化炉に石炭と空気とを供給するとと
もに、同第２段ガス化炉の下部に連結された前記
第１段ガス化炉からの生成ガスを導入して石炭を
ガス化し、一方、一端が前記第２段ガス化炉の下
方に連結され他端が前記第１段ガス化炉に連通す
るチヤー搬送管の下部に高圧ガスを供給して前記
第２段ガス化炉内で生成したチヤーを前記チヤー
搬送管内に抜き出したあと第１段ガス炉に送給し
、ガス化剤によりガス化する石炭ガス化装置にお
いて、前記第２段ガス化炉内の堆積層の厚さを検
出する層高検出手段と、前記層高検出手段により
検出された堆積層の厚さと負荷指令とに基づき前
記チヤー搬送管下部に供給する高圧ガスの流量を
調節する手段とを備えたことを特徴とする石炭ガ
