Abstract

PURPOSE:To directly eliminate hydrogen from carbon-hydrogen bond, obtain a dehydrogenation product and simultaneously produce hydrogen, by subjecting a compound having carbon-hydrogen bond to light irradiation in the presence of a transition metal complex. CONSTITUTION:One or more kind of compounds having carbon-hydrogen bond are subjected to light irradiation in the presence of a transition metal complex wherein preferably the transition metal is VIII group transition metal especially Co, Rh, Ir, Fe, Ru, Ni and/or Pt and least one ligand in the ligands is a compound expressed by the formula R<1>R<2>R<3>P or formula R<4>R<5>P-A-PR<6>R<7> (R<1>-R<7> are 1-20C alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl; A is 1-20C alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene, aralkylene or ferrocenylene), preferably coexisting a hydrogen acceptor to directly eliminate hydrogen from the above-mentioned bond and directly convert the above-mentioned raw material into a dehydrogenation product and hydrogen under mild conditions.
