Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a format applicable to an optical disk with a specific size or below by keeping a line recording density on a track and an effective data transfer speed the same as those of a conventional system and providing sample marks at a required interval. CONSTITUTION:In an optical information recording disk medium, one track consists of 24 sectors and one sector comprises 86 segments and one segment is made up of 2-byte sample marks and 8-byte data area. Thus, in case of 2,400rpm, the line recording density is 0.91mum/bit an user data capacity is 128 Mbytes. Then the outer diameter of the disk is 84mm or below and the inner diameter is 32mm or over. The line recording density is higher by 4% in comparison with a conventional disk of 5.25 inch, but it can be realized and the effective data transfer rate in both the cases is 3.9Mbps. Thus, a format for a 3.5 inch optical disk in common use for a 5.25 inch optical disk is obtained.
