PURPOSE:To assure the good contact state between a magnetic layer and magnetic head and to assure the wear resistance of the magnetic layer as well by incorporating specific nonmagnetic powder into the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The fine powder of cubic crystal boron nitride is incorporated into the magnetic layer of a magnetic recording medium provided with the magnetic layer on one face of a nonmagnetic base, by which the good polishing property of a magnetic head and the sufficient wear resistance of the magnetic layer are obtd. The cubic crystal boron nitride to be used has preferably 0.1-1.5mum, more preferably 0.3-1.0mum average grain size. The effect of improving the wear resistance of the coated film is low if the grain size is too small. The smooth coated film is hardly obtd. and the wear property of the magnetic head increases conversely if the grain size is too large.
