Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily produce a titled tube at a low cost by feeding a yarn-shaped high-polymer water absorbent simultaneously with an optical fiber into the tube and inserting the same in a manner as to form waving. CONSTITUTION:After a silicone resin is primarily coated 5 on the quartz glass optical fiber 4 (125mum diameter), an urethane resin is secondarily coated 6 thereon to form the optical fiber 3 having 0.4mm diameter. The high-polymer water absorbent is formed to 0.2mm diameter with an acrylic acid grafted starch system. The fiber 3 and the yarn 8 are then fed and inserted by an oscillation packing method into, for example, a steel tube 1 having 1.0mm (0.8mm) outside diameter (inside diameter) and 1,000m length. Since the high-polymer water absorbent is made into the yarn shape, the production of the optical fiber containing tube having a gap remaining therein is possible even with a small diameter tube of several mm and said tube is easily formed over the entire length of the fiber 3. The water infiltrating in the tube is blocked by the swelling of the yarn 7, by which the failure of a connecting apparatus is prevented.
