Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a sulfur-base extreme-pressure additive free from odor and having an excellent extreme-pressure effect at a low cost without use of any special reaction device, by adding activated carbon, amine, and water to a sulfurization product of an unsatd. vegetable and animal oil and/or a sulfurization product of an unsatd. fatty acid ester and aerating the mixture at a particular temp. CONSTITUTION:Activated carbon (a), amine and/or an amine salt of mercaptobenzothiazole (b), and water (c) are added to a sulfurization product of an unsatd. vegetable and animal oil and/or a sulfurization product of an unsatd. fatty acid ester, and the mixture is aerated at 50-100 deg.C to conduct deodorization. Thereafter, the components (a), (b) and (c) are removed. In the treatment, it is pref. to use components (a), (b), and (c) in amts. of 0.5-5pts.wt., 0.2-1pt.wt., and 0.5-10pts.wt., respectively, based on 100pts.wt. sulfurization product.
