Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title insulator without dust release from its surface by forming the coating film layer of a fibrous material having a carbonization shrinking property similar to that of a thermosetting resin foam on the surface of the foam having specified carbonization yield, and further forming thereon the coating film layer consisting of a mixture of a film forming substance such as carbon and the thermosetting resin. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a metallic mold, whose surface is heated to a prescribed temp., is lined with the fibrous material (e.g., felt of 'Kynor(R)' fiber) corresponding to the shape and having the carbonization shrinking property similar to the thermosetting resin to form the coating layer, and the mixture of a thermosetting resin (e.g., phenolic resin) having >=20wt.% carbonization yield and a curing agent is charged therein, foamed, and cured. The molded body is taken out from the metallic mold, heated, and carbonized. The mixture consisting of the thermosetting resin, the curing agent in alcohol and carbon (e.g., artificial graphite powder) is uniformly applied on the surface coating layer, heated, cured, and further heated to obtain the title insulator.
