Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a safe and excellent antidementia agent containing a 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid derivative as an active component, exhibiting anti-amnestic effect by oral administration and having low toxicity. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent contains a compound of formula I (A is phenyl or pyridyl which may have halogen as a nucleus substituent; n is 1-4; Y is -O- or -NH-) as an active component. The compound is mixed with various drug additives such as excipient, disintegrant, condensation agent or lubricant and used in various forms such as tablet or powder. The daily rate of administration for adult is 50-1,000mg in the case of oral administration and 1-500mg for parenteral administration. The compound of formula I can be synthesized e.g. by reacting the compound of formula II with the compound of formula III preferably in the presence of a condensation agent (e.g. N,N'- dicyclohexylcarbodiimide).
