Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable exact signal reading by forming slopes on both sides of tracks in the case of reading the information of recording tracks by reflection of laser light. CONSTITUTION:The projection light from a laser light source is condensed onto an aluminum reflecting film 8 of a recording medium 6. The light focused to the recording part 1 of the reflecting film 8 is reflected to arrive at a photodetector via a beam splitter unless there are pits. The light is diffracted and is prevented from arriving at the photodetector if there are the pits. The information of the medium 6 can, therefore, be read by the presence or absence of the pits. The parts except the recording part 11 in this constitution form the groove parts consisting of the slopes 12, 13. The light projected to the slopes 12, 13 is scattered and is prevented from returning to an objective lens 3. The disturbance in the various intensity levels of the reflected light is, therefore, obviated even if the projection area except the recording part 11 is increased. The exact signal reading is thereby executed regardless of the tracking accuracy.
