Abstract

PURPOSE:To selectively erase recorded information by an erasing beam irradiating a heat generating layer which is closely contacting with a recording/reproducing layer and selectively generating heat in accordance with said erasing beam. CONSTITUTION:A disk consists of a protection layer 5b for protecting a recording medium 5a, a 1st auxiliary layer 51 for focusing/tracking, a recording/reproducing layer 52 for recording data, an erasing heat generation layer 53 for generating heat by the radiation of laser beams, a 2nd auxiliary layer 54 for focusing, and a reflection film layer 55. When laser beam spots with wavelengths lambda1-lambda8 in an M2 wavelength band are emitted from semiconductor laser diodes (LDs) 1, 3, 4 to a recording medium layer at the time of recording, the beams are transmitted through the layers 5b, 51 without being almost absorbed and then absorbed to the layer 52 and absorbing spectrum holes are generated on the positions of the wavelengths lambda1-lambda8 to form pits. When a laser beam spot of the M3 wavelength band of the LD 2 is radiated to a recording pit position at the time of erasing, the beam is absorbed into the layer 53, heat is generated and the layer 52 is selectively heated to allow the hole to disappear, so that recorded information is erased.
