Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a modified polyester of improved alkali resistance, by adding a condensation type macromonomer to the reaction system before completing the reaction of a bifunctional aromatic carboxylic acid with a diol component and a modifier. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a modified polyester from a bifunctional carboxylic acid component based on a bifunctional aromatic carboxylic acid or its esterifiable derivative and a diol component and a modifier, 0.5-30wt.%, based on said modified polyester, condensation type macromonomer is added to the reaction system before completing the reaction. In this process, the modifier is used in order to impart or improve functions such as dyeability, antistatic property, flame retardancy, water absorptivity, moisture absorptivity, staining resistance and pilling resistance to or of the aromatic polyester as a base. The MW of the macromonomer used is suitably in the range of 400-20,000 (in terms of a number-average MW) because desired alkali resistance cannot be realized when it is excessively low or high.
