CONSTITUTION:The imine compd. expressed by the formula is used as the org. nonlinear optical material. In the formula, X, Y denote amino, alkoxy, ketone, etc.; R<1> denotes H, alkyl, aryl, etc.; R<2>-R<9> denote H, alkyl, halogen, etc. This compd. can be synthesized by the ester exchange reaction of the imine of the arom. primary amine derived from a low boiling carbonyl compd. and alpha,beta-unsatd. aldehydes, etc. This compd. has the large nonlinear optical constant, is stable and allows easy formation of a thin film and therefore, is used for high-performance optical elements.
