Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable efficient deletion of words, by providing a memory for storing the frequency of use, detected through spelling check, of each word stored in a user's dictionary memory, and a controlling means for performing processes such as displaying and deletion of the words in the order low in the frequency stored in the memory. CONSTITUTION:A user's dictionary memory 74 stores words and the frequency, i.e., the number of times of spelling check on each of the words. When an input is supplied through a key, it is judged whether the key is a character key 18 or a numeral key 20. When the result of judgment is NO, it is judged whether the key is a space key 22, and when the result is NO, it is judged whether the key is a dictionary-registered key 26. When the key is not the dictionary registration key, it is judged whether the key is a dictionary display key 28. When the key is not the dictionary-registered key, it is judged whether the key is a dictionary deletion key 30. When the key is the dictionary deletion key, it is judged whether the word immediately before the input through the dictionary deletion key 30 consists only of numeral data, and when the result is YES, the words the frequency of use of which is not more than the numeral are deleted from the user's dictionary memory 74. Thus, deletion of words from the user's dictionary memory can be efficiently performed.
