Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress Brillouin scattering light by providing a regions which vary in bulk modulus of elasticity and density within the section of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The Brillouin scattering light suppressing parts 3 formed of the regions consisting of the media which are largely different in the bulk modulus of elasticity and density from a core 1 and a clad 2 are disposed at >=1 points within the section of the ordinary single mode optical fiber having the core 1 and the clad 2. The Brillouin scattering light is thereby suppressed and the transmission loss of the optical fiber by the Brillouin scattering light is decreased with such a light transmission system or optical fiber sensor which uses a light source of a narrow oscillation frequency width. The noises by the scattered light co-existing in the transmitted light are thus suppressed.
