Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon black of a low heat build-up without detriment to its reinforcing property, by specifying its nitrogen adsorption specific surface area and oil absorption rate by DBP and its index of compatibility between high reinforcing property and low heat build-up. CONSTITUTION:A carbon black having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N2SA) OF 65-84m<2>/g, a DBP absorption rate belonging to the hard class of 90-115ml/100g and a b value as defined by formula I satisfying the relationship of formula II. In formula I, A is an iodine adsorption, Tint is a tinting strength, Dst (bar) is the modal Stokes equivalent diameter in a distribution of Stokes equivalent diameters of agglomerates as determined by centrifugal sedimentation, DELTADst is the difference between the two small and large Stokes equivalent diameters corresponding to the frequencies equal to 50% of the mode in said distribution. The b value is an index representing the compatibility between high reinforcing property and low heat build-up, and when this value is smaller than 1.15X[N2SA)+30, the heat build-up cannot be decreased to a desired level, and when it is above 200, the reinforcing property is insufficient.
