Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance crushing efficiency, by bringing the ultrasonic vibration transmitted through a transmitting member to lateral vibration by driving the ultrasonic probe of an ultrasonic treatment device at the resonance point of the lateral vibration. CONSTITUTION:A suction bore for discharging the broken pieces of a crushed calculus from the body cavity is formed to the axial center parts of an ultrasonic wave transmitting member 14, a horn 22 and a bolt 17 and communicates with the pipe-shaped cap provided to the end part of the bolt 17 and the suction tube (not shown in a drawing) connected to a suction apparatus is mounted to the cap. A drive signal is applied to a vibrator 16 from a drive circuit 30. The phase theta-characteristic (the phase difference between a voltage value and a current value at the input terminal of the drive signal) of an ultrasonic probe 10 becomes 0 deg. at the resonance frequency f1 of longitudinal vibration and also becomes 0 deg. at the resonance frequency f2 of the lateral vibration. Similarly, the impedance (¦Z¦) characteristic of the ultrasonic probe 10 becomes min. at the resonance frequencies f1, f2 of longitudinal and lateral vibrations. Therefore, by driving the ultrasonic probe 10 at the resonance frequency f2 of the lateral vibration, the crushing efficiency can be enhanced.
