Abstract

PURPOSE:To satisfy optical conditions in order to obtain a distinct image by giving appropriate moisture to the swelled lines of a fingerprint and bringing those swelled lines into contact with a reflecting surface when the fingerprint is obtained by means of the permeability of a porous material. CONSTITUTION:A porous material 101 contains a liquid and is supported by a holder 108 and also pressed by a packing 110. A finger 102 is put on a mounting surface 104 and the appropriate moisture is given to the surfaces of the swelled lines of the finger 102 by the permeability of the material 101 and owing to a capillary phenomenon. Thus close contact is secured between the surface 104 and the swelled lines of the fingerprint. Then an image obtained by optical boundary conditions produced on the surface 104 by light given from a light source 106 is acquired by an image pickup device 107. As a result, a distinct gradation image is obtained owing to said optical boundary conditions. Furthermore, a supply part 112 is provided to store a liquid 111 and therefore the liquid 111 permeates into the material 101 and supplied at all times.
