Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operability of an editing device such as a Japanese word processor, by replacing a character shown by a cursor with a proper character ruled line after deciding the moving direction of the cursor, the types of characters set before and after the character shown by the cursor, and the types of the same digit characters on the lines set before and after said character. CONSTITUTION:When ten keys of an input device 1 are pushed, a character extracting/deciding part 23 extracts the characters set before and after the position of a cursor as well as the characters of the same digit on the lines set before and after the cursor position out of a character string storing part 24. Thus the direction of a ruled line is decided and a ruled line character deciding part 22 uses a decision table based on the decided direction of the ruled line and decides a character code by calculation while referring to the result obtained by the part 23. For this purpose, a document producing/editing device consists of a display device 2, a cursor control part 20, a cursor display control part 21, the part 22, the part 23, the part 24 and a display control part 25.
