Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a processor to use a printer with no consciousness of its type by providing a branch table which divides a microprogram into a common control part and an individual routine group corresponding to the type of the printer and stores the shift destinations. CONSTITUTION:A processor 101 checks the type of a connected printer 112 and selects a conversion table and a branch table optimum to the printer 112 to load them down to a control mechanism. A microprogram of the control mechanism converts the print data received from the processor 101 according to the converting procedure described into a loaded-down conversion table 108 and transfer the converted print data to the printer 112. While an area where the control contents are different by the types of printers is controlled by an individual routine designated by the branch table. Thus the application of a new type printer is possible just with production of a conversion table and a branch table in response to the printer connected to the processor.
