Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled carbonaceous material by mixing each specified amount of BC and SiC with self-sinterable and optically anisotropic carbonaceous microspheres followed by forming and sintering. CONSTITUTION:First, pitch such as coal tar pitch or petroleum-based heavy oil is brought to heating process at 350-500 deg.C to produce optically anisotropic microspheres. Said microspheres is then fractionated with a solvent capable of leaving beta-component (e.g. benzene, tar light oil, tar middle oil) to batch off from the pitch matrix followed by calcination at 200-500 deg.C to prepare self-sinterable and optically anisotropic carbonaceous microspheres (A). Thence, 100pts.wt. of the component A is incorporated with (B) 1-50pts.wt. of BC and (C) 1-50pts.wt. of SiC followed by forming and sintering, thus obtaining the objective carbonaceous material.
