Abstract

PURPOSE:To isomerize trans-2-methylspiro(oxathiolane)quinuclidine or an acid addition salt thereof to the cis-form useful for treating diseases in mammalian central nervous systems, especially chloinergic hyperfunction, by treating the trans-2-methylspiro(oxathiolane)quinuclidine or acid addition salt thereof in the presence of sulfuric acid. CONSTITUTION:trans-2-Methylspiro(1,3-oxathiolane-5,3')quinuclidine or an acid addition salt thereof is reacted and isomerized in the presence of preferably 2-10mol. sulfuric acid (preferably 20-80% concentration), desirably at 20-100 deg.C for 0.2-24hr to provide the cis-form.
