Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily detect the abnormality in the juncture of connected optical fibers without hindering the high-packaging density thereof by attaching a jig made of a shape memory alloy which bends the fiber at a specific temp. to the mid-point of a piece of the connected fibers. CONSTITUTION:Tension members 3 drawn out of an optical fiber cable 1 held in a gripping part 2 are held in a gripping part 4 and the end faces of plural pieces of the fibers 5 are connected to each other. The outside circumferences thereof are coated with a hermetic sealing part 10. The jig 8 made of the shape memory alloy is attached to the hermetic sealing part 10 of at least a piece of the fiber and the entire part is hermetically sealed by a closure 6 and an end face plate 7. A specific signal is kept passed to the fiber attached with the jig 8 at all times. The fiber is curved by the deformation of the shape memory alloy 8 and an alarm is emitted by a change in the quantity of the passed light when a fire breaks out near the cable. The detection of the abnormality and the maintenance and control are, therefore, facilitated at a low maintenance cost.
