Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an intermediate for molding which can be easily handled and can give a molding of high reliability, by forming a flexible composite material formed by coating a bundle of reinforcing fibers with a thermoplastic resin into a sheet or a tape by knitting or weaving. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate for molding is formed by forming a bundle of reinforcing fibers with a thermoplastic resin into a sheet or a tape by knitting or weaving. As said reinforcing fibers, continuous long fibers such as glass fibers, carbon fibers, aromatic polyamide fibers or alumina fibers are used. A bundle of several to several tens of thousands, preferably, several tens to several hundreds of these fibers which are optionally surface-treated to improve their affinity for a molten thermoplastic resin are used. Examples of the thermoplastic resins include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, Teflon and polyphenylene sulfide.
