Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve reading performance by selecting picture data to correspond to a designated reading line from the picture data for one sheet stored to a sheet buffer means based on reading line designating information, transferring the data and executing a character recognization processing. CONSTITUTION:The picture data of a line area to correspond to the designated reading line are read from a sheet buffer 11 with the transferring control signal from a control part 13 by a line image transferring control part 14 and the data are transferred to a line buffer 15. Namely, the line image transferring control part 14 writes the picture data of the line area to correspond to the designated reading line to the line buffer 15. A character detecting and segmenting part 16 detects and cuts the picture data for the unit of one character from the line buffer 15 by the control of the control part 13. Then, a recognizing part 17 executes the character recognization processing to the picture data for the unit of one character outputted from the character detecting and segmenting part 16 by the control of the control part 13. Thus, for plural reading lines 21-24, the respective lines 21-24 are selected in an order designated by a host computer and the reading performance can be improved.
