Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a safe ophthalmic solution effective in treating the injury of ophthalmic tissue caused by a chlorine-based disinfectant in a pool during swimming, by compounding a specific amount of taurin. CONSTITUTION:Taurin is compounded in an amount of 2.5-3.5W/V%. The addition of taurin solves various problems of eye drops of acetylcysteine or vitamin C for the treatment of the injury of opthalmic tissue caused by chlorine- based disinfectant, e.g. instability in an aqueous solution to unable long-term preservation and disagreeable irritation when applied to eye. The opthalmic solution is used in the form of eye drop or face wash and can be produced by dissolving a prescribed amount of taurin together with other drugs (e.g. neostigmine methyl sulfate or glycyrrhetic acid dipotassium salt), a preservative (e.g. p-oxybenzoic acid esters), a buffering agent (e.g. boric acid), an isotonic agent (e.g. NaCl), etc., in 70-90% of sterilized and purified water (based on the whole solution) under heating.
