Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a growth regulator containing a quaternary ammonium salt such as dedecylmethyldihydroxyethylammonium phenol sulfonate and exhibiting excellent effect to promote the growth and increase the yield of rice crop. CONSTITUTION:The objective growth regulator for rice contains a quaternary ammonium salt of formula I [R1 is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, allyl, methallyl, aromatic group or group of formula II (Y is alkylene; n is 1-100; M is alkyl, alkylphenyl, etc.); R2 and R3 are R1; R4 is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, group of formula III, benzyl, etc.; A is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkylaryl, aromatic group, allyl, vinyl, etc.] (e.g. oleylmethyldihydroxyethylammonium p-toluene-sulfonate). The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula IV (X is halogen) with a compound of formula V [Q is alkali or alkaline-earth metal].
