Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a reproduced signal with an excellent S/N by making the difference value between output signals from both magneto-resistance effect type heads by means of a differential amplifier. CONSTITUTION:First and second magneto-resistance effect type (MR) heads 6, 7 are disposed neighboring each other with a specific interval W on a magnetic medium 2 on which data is recorded by means of perpendicular magnetization recording, and the differential amplifier 8 is provided on the output terminal of both MR heads. Thus a first MR head 6 and a second MR head 7 having the interval narrower than the magnetic pole width W1 are interlocked and moved on the magnetic poles recorded on the medium 2, hence a rectangular waveform signal having a delay time equivalent to the interval W of both MR heads is outputted from the first MR head 6 and the second MR head 7. The differential amplifier 8 takes the difference between the rectangular waveform signals, and a pulse signal whose width is W which is the difference value is detected to form a reproduced signal. Thus the interval W between the first and second MR heads is made the pulse width of a reproduced signal, and the shifting position of the magnetic pole can be detected with a high resolution, as well as differentiation circuit before demodulation is made unnecessary, furthermore, a reproduced signal with an excellent S/N can be obtained.
