Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve a higher measuring accuracy, by immersing a part of a piping, through which one of a density calibration liquid and a liquid to be measured to be supplied to a flow cell, flows into the other liquid or doing a storage tank of one liquid into the other liquid to eliminate possible temperature difference between both the liquids. CONSTITUTION:Three-way valves 7 and 8 are switched and a low density calibration liquid of a tank 5 is sucked with a pump 9 through a piping 15 for heat exchange to be supplied to a flow cell 3. The current potential (hereafter called electrode potential) of an ion electrode 1 with respect to a comparison electrode 2 is measured with a potentiometer 11 to be stored into a memory within an arithmetic device 12. Then, the three-way valve 7 is switched to supply a high density calibration liquid of a tank 6 the cell 3 and the current electrode potential is stored. Subsequently, the three-way valve 8 is switched and a liquid to be measured in a tank 13 is supplied to the cell 3 to detect an electrode potential. Then, ion density of the liquid being measured is computed from a potential of the calibration liquid thereby enabling highly accurate measurement.
