Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in printing quality and print speed by constituting discretely a capping means which is caused to come into contact with a recording head at the time of non-recording and a clogging preventive means which causes ink to be discharged without a load from the recording head at the time of recording, and allowing the recording head to move and operate at each position. CONSTITUTION:After the performing of recording action on prearranged few lines, a pulse motor driver 23 is driven by means of a control circuit 16, and subsequently, a carriage 1 is permitted to move to an opposite position to a clogging preventive means for unloaded discharge. A signal for unloaded discharge is transmitted to a recording head driver 24 from the control circuit 16 to discharge ink droplets from a recording head 2. After the completion of the unloaded discharge action, the next recording operation is resumed. After the movement of the recording head 2 to an opposite position to a capping means 20 under a non-recording state, a capping drive means 25 is driven to cause the capping means 20 to come into contact with the recording head 2. For cancellation of the above action, the procedures are reversed. Under the above constitution, secure clogging preventive steps can be successfully taken without any adverse effect to recording speed.
