Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the elasticity and the resistance to load of a composite cable consisting of more than one multiple-type optical fiber and at least two copper wire cords by covering the said fiber and cords so as to hold them parallel to each other. CONSTITUTION:A multiple-type optical fiber 1 and two copper wire cords 2 are arranged to be parallel to each other in a cable. The said optical fiber 1 is constructed with a sea portion 6 made of organic macromolecular material and an island portion 7, and the island portion 7 is constructed with a transparent core 8 and a transparent sheath 9 having refractive index lower than that of the said core so as to be practically circular. When a multiple-type optical fiber of square cross section is used the elasticity in lateral and longitudinal directions can be improved. Thereby the elasticity and also the resistance to load of the said new cable can be improved significantly than those of flat type composite cable consisting of optical fiber made of conventional core and sheath and copper wire cords.
