Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a correct bearing of a motor vehicle irrespective of the running condition thereof, by calculating the present bearing on the basis of the previous changes of the bearings when the disturbance of the geomagnetism is detected by a detecting means. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 24 combines (x, y) components outputted from a geomagnetic sensor 20 to obtain a bearing vector P0. Whether or not the geomagnetism is disturbed is detected by the fact whether the scalar ¦P0¦<2> of the bearing vector P0 is within the range of the permissible bearing calculation which is set in advance. When the disturbance of the geomagnetism is beyond the permissible range, from (m) transitions (changes) of the bearing angles indicating the advancing direction of the motor vehicle which transitions (changes) have been previously calculated and stored in a RAM, succeeding (present) bearing angles thetan are calculated. The previous bearing angles thetan-1...thetan-m change at a predetermined rate, without suddent change. Therefore, the succeeding change immediately after the previous change can be easily guessed. The bearing angles thetan obtained in the aforementioned manner are stored in the RAM and at the same time, indicated at 26.
