CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 24 combines (x, y) components outputted from a geomagnetic sensor 20 to obtain a bearing vector P0. Whether or not the geomagnetism is disturbed is detected by the fact whether the scalar ¦P0¦<2> of the bearing vector P0 is within the range of the permissible bearing calculation which is set in advance. When the disturbance of the geomagnetism is beyond the permissible range, from (m) transitions (changes) of the bearing angles indicating the advancing direction of the motor vehicle which transitions (changes) have been previously calculated and stored in a RAM, succeeding (present) bearing angles thetan are calculated.
