Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an inclination sensor in simple construction with high reliability, by constituting the sensor by a container containing a liquid, a light receiving unit placed above the container, and end portions of optical fibers provided in lateral surface of the container with an inclination of predetermined angles with respect to the surface of the liquid, etc. CONSTITUTION:End portions of optical fibers 3 are attached to the opposite lateral surfaces of a container 2 containing a liquid 1 such as mercury or the like, with an inclination of predetermined angles with respect to the surface of the liquid. A light source is provided at the other ends of the optical fibers. Moreover, a light receiving unit 6 having a plurality of light receiving elements is placed above the container 2. Each of the light receiving elements of the light receiving unit 6 is connected to a detecting circuit. In the event that the container 2 is placed horizontally, the light of the light source is projected from the end portions of the optical fibers 3 and reflected by the surface of the liquid 1. The inclination angles of the end portions of the optical fibers 3 are adjusted in advance so that a reflected light 5 does not enter the light receiving unit 6. Then, in the case where the container 2 is inclined by angles theta, the reflected light 5 enters the light receiving unit 6. Accordingly, if the number of the light receiving element at the position where the reflected light enters the light receiving unit 6 is detected, the angles theta can be detected. Thus, the inclination of an object mounted with the container 2 is able to be detected.
