Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title compd. which has a large absorption in a infrared region, can be readily synthesized and attains remarkable improvement in durability and light stability in repeated regeneration when used in an optical recording medium, and which is represented by a particular N-contg. formula. CONSTITUTION:The infrared absorbing compd. of the invention is represented by formulas I and/or II (wherein A is a group of formula III or IV which may be substd. with an alkyl, an alkoxy or a halogen; X<-> is an anion; and R1-R8 are each a 1-8C substituent with the proviso that at least one thereof is an alkoxyalkyl, an alkenyl or an alkynyl). This compd. has a large absorption in a infrared region, can be readily synthesized and provides a medium having remarkably improved durability and light stability in repeated regeneration when used in a optical recording medium.
