Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an ink additive for lithography which can attain desirable prevention of greasing in an ink and a printing plate both for use with a rotary press for offset printing and simultaneously can give an excellent printed matter with high ink density, and which comprises a compd. having a terminal hydroxyl group, represented by a particular formula. CONSTITUTION:The ink additive for lithography of the invention comprises a compd. of formula I (wherein either of A and B is a unit of formula II, the other being a unit of formula III or IV; a, b, c, d and e may by 0; and R is H or an org. group) which is a polymer having an MW of at least 400 and in which at least 4 moles of formula II units are present. This ink additive can attain extremely desirable prevention of greasing in an ink and a printing plate both for use with a rotary press for offset printing which are likely to suffer from greasing. Further, the ink additive can give an excellent printed matter with high ink density. Still further, since inorg. particles, such as colloidal silica, are not always needed after printing plate treatment, it is possible to obtain a printed matter having an increased ink density.
