Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively adsorb mercury and fluoride ions in raw water by adding a heavy metal fixing agent and an inorg. flocculant to the raw water containing mercury and fluoride ion, adjusting the pH to about 7, carrying out solid-liq. separation and returning the separated suspended solids to raw water. CONSTITUTION:A heavy metal fixing agent and an inorg. flocculant are added to raw water contg. mercury and fluoride ions, e.g., waste water from a garbage incinerating plant, waste water from a stage for producing fluorescent lamps or cathode-ray tubes or waste water from a laboratory. After the pH of the raw water is adjusted to about 7, solid-liq. separation is carried out and the separated suspended solids are returned to raw water. The heavy metal fixing agent may be a compd. contg. S<2-> such as sodium sulfide or sodium hydrosulfide or a compd. forming a chelate with N and S atoms such as thiourea. The inorg. flocculant may be an iron compd. such as ferric chloride or an aluminum compd. such as aluminum sulfate.
