PURPOSE:To increase the O2 absorption efficiency of a negative electrode plate, decrease the separator density, and increase the resiliency by forming a separator with fibers arranged as required in a storage battery in which an electrolyte is nearly held between positive and negative electrode plates and the separator in a nonfluidic state. CONSTITUTION:A separator 1 is constituted of linear fibers 2 mixedly arranged nearly in parallel with the plane of the separator and curled fibers 3 arranged in random directions. The absorption efficiency of the O2 gas absorbed in a negative electrode plate is increased according to this constitution, the liquid reduction is remarkably decreased, and the battery life is extended. The separator density is decreased, the usage material can be reduced, the resilience of the separator is increased, and the void section between a positive electrode plate and the separator boundary surface can be decreased.
