Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a superior needle pin enhanced in wear resistance and free from deformation, by a method wherein, in the pin of a high-speed steel, the hardness of the pin body part and tip end part, together with the shearing strength of the pin are specified. CONSTITUTION:A hardening treatment is applied overall to the pin of a high- speed steel at a normal hardening temperature, and the tip end part of the pin is heated and hardened for a short time at a temperature 50-200 deg.C higher than the aforesaid hardening temperature without being tempered. Thereafter, the pin is tempered overall. In the needle pin, its body part is Hv 850-950 in hardness and the tip end part is Hv 1000 or more in hardness and 400kg/mm<2> or more in shearing strength. Additionally, with a hardening temperature lower than the aforesaid to be applied to the tip end part of the pin, the components of an alloy carbide fail to dissolve into a matrix and the effect of the hardening cannot be obtained; on the other hand with a higher hardening temperature, particles become coarse to deteriorate the toughness. Namely, the tip end part of the pin is desirably hardened at a temperature of 1250-1400 deg.C.
