Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a microorganism retaining body high in the adhesive strength and density of the microorganism by coating at least a part of the surface of biochemical filter medium formed of polyolefin synthetic resin with a hydrophilic coating material. CONSTITUTION:A ring-like boichemical filter medium formed of polyethylene is coated with a hydrophilic coating material containing the resin of a high water absorbing capacity to form a microorganism retaining body having a coating film of 18mg on the surface of said biochemical filter medium. The application of such coating material thereto accelerates the adhesion of anaerobic bacteria to the retaining body and the growth rate thereof with a high adhesive strength and density, thereby rendering efficient the biological treatment of anaerobic drainage and particularly that of a highly concentrated BOD drainage.
