Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the subject fiber ring in adhesion to a heat-resistant rubber matrix by treating a fiber with a fluororesin latex, drying the treated fiber to a prescribed moisture content and treating the resultant fiber with a liquid containing a specific terpolymer latex, a specified rubber latex and a specific resorcinol-formaldehyde(R-F) condensate. CONSTITUTION: A fiber is treated with a first liquid containing a fluororesin latex (a prescribed example: a polytetrafluoroethylene latex) and the moisture content is then dried to 2-20 wt.% based on the resin solid content. The resultant fiber is subsequently treated with a second liquid containing a terpolymer latex of a vinylpyridine-styrene-butadiene, a rubber latex (a preferred example: an SBR rubber latex) and a water-soluble condensate of a resorcinol-formaldehyde to apply 1-10 wt.% owf of the second treated liquid (solid content) thereto. The treated fiber is completely dried at 200-300 deg.C. Furthermore, better results are obtained by treating the fiber with an overcoating liquid containing a halogen-containing polymer (e.g. chloroprene) and an isocyanate. The method for treatment is especially effective for glass fibers.
