Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an epoxy curing agent which can give a cured product improved in mechanical strengths, physical heat resistance and fracture toughness, being good in workability and prevented from being colored by oxidation during curing, by mixing an acid anhydride with a specified oxazoline compound. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy curing agent comprising 1mol of an acid anhydride (e.g., methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride) and 0.05-0.2mol of an oxazoline compound of formula I (wherein X is a bivalent organic group, D is a bivalent organic group, n is 0 or 1, and the ring structure of formula II is five-membered) [e.g., 2,2'-m-phenylenebis (2-oxazoline)]. It is desirable that this curing agent is produced by reacting at 100-160 deg.C for 0.1-4hr. This curing agent can give a cured epoxy product highly improved in heat resistance and mechanical properties (especially, toughness), being good in workability and prevented from being colored by oxidation during curing.
