Abstract

PURPOSE:To readily carry out controlling of insect pests at a low cost without imparting resistance to insect pests, by applying a small amount of a synthetic agricultural chemical and a useful nematode selected from insect parasitic nematodes and fungivorous nematode except plant parasitic nematodes to insect pest inhabitat areas. CONSTITUTION:Insect pests are controlled by using a small amount of a synthetic agricultural chemical (e.g. insecticide, germicide, herbicide or insecticide) together with a useful nematode and applying both to insect pest habitat areas. The useful nematode is selected from insect parasitic nematodes (family Steinernematidae) and fungivorous nematodes (e.g. Aphelenchus avenae) and the synthetic agricultural chemical is used in a concentration so as to activate movement of the useful nematode. If the agricultural chemical concentration is high, the nematodes are in a resting state and mixed application effects are deteriorated. If the agricultural chemical is a soil fumigant, alternate application of fumigation and useful nematode is carried out. Since the amount of applied agricultural chemical is small, occurrence of pollution is remarkably reduced to readily attain increase in yield, such as agricultural and forestry crops and animal products and epidemic prevention of livestock.
