Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adhering efficiency, water absorbing efficiency and mechanical strength of soluble resin in a water absorbable composite, employed for a communication cable, water retention sheets and the like, by a method wherein the title composite is formed of the layer of high-melting point synthetic resin and the layer of low-melting point synthetic resin while crosslinking treatment is applied on water-soluble resin, adhered to the exposed outer surface of the low-melting point synthetic resin layer. CONSTITUTION:The title composite is constituted of a layer 2 of high-melting point synthetic resin and a layer 3 of low-melting point synthetic resin while the composite is a tape type laminate, on the surface of which the low-melting point synthetic resin layer 3 is exposed, or split yarn, obtained by splitting the tape type laminate, or a composite fibrous body. The laminate, split yarn or composite fibrous body is heated to the proximity of the melting point of the low-melting point synthetic resin, thereafter, water-soluble powder resin is brought to contact with it to adhere the soluble resin to the outer surface of the exposed low-melting point synthetic resin layer 3 and, subsequently, crosslinking treatment is applied on the water- soluble resin to form a crosslinked substance 4. A tape, obtained by slitting a laminated film after orientation or orientating after slitting it into fine width, is employed as the tape- type laminate. The split yarn is obtained by splitting the tape-type laminate into reticulated form or perfect fibrous form.
