Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain an image density data decoding data in which block noise is made unnoticeable by expressing a boundary between neighboring two blocks otherwise than with a straight line. CONSTITUTION:A half-tonal image is divided into blocks consisting of plural picture elements, picture element density data in said blocks are approximated with less data, coded data generated by coding said data is received and decoded; such is the titled method, in which, the boundary between the neighboring blocks is not expressed with a straight line. As a result, the processings can be executed only with a decoder, and no special processings are necessary on the coder side. Therefore, the amount of coding does not increase, the algorithm is extremely simple, hence no complicated arithmetic operation is necessary, and the titled method can by easily attained with devices. Also, the time necessary for the processings does not increase much, and block noises that may appear both in the vertical and the horizontal directions can be reduced.
