Abstract

CONSTITUTION:A compression stress 2 is formed along the circumference of a nuclear fuel clad tube at all diametrical positions from the inner to outer surface of the tube in a plane perpendicular to the axis center of the tube 1 which houses a nuclear fuel inside to compose a nuclear reactor fuel rod. A heat treatment is performed applying a tension stress in the circumferential direction of the nuclear fuel clad tube under a high temperature and after a cooling, the tension stress is removed to form a compression stress along the circumference of the nuclear fuel clad tube in a plane perpendicular to the axis center thereof. Material of the nuclear fuel clad tube 1 employs a zirconium allay. stainless steel, magnox or the like. The magnitude of the compression stress 2 is so set enough properly to prevent an SCC damage to the nuclear fuel rod as caused by a PCI/SCC generated from interaction between the clad tube 1 and a pellet when a nuclear fuel pellet is housed in the nuclear fuel clad tube 1 to compose the nuclear fuel rod.
