CONSTITUTION:The first paper sheet P1 and the second paper sheet P2 advance continuously in a paper advance passage INP, keeping an interval S. A paper top edge detector DEC detects the top edge of the first paper sheet P1 and a reversal space selecting valve SEL is switched to the first reversal space RVS1 side, and the first paper sheet P1 intrudes into the first reversal space RVS1. Then, the top edge of the second paper sheet P2 is detected by the paper top edge detector DEC, and the reversal space selecting valve SEL is switched to the second reversal space RVS2 side, and the second paper sheet P2 intrudes into the second reversal space RVS2. Therefore, even if the interval between the papers is shorter than the paper length, the paper sheets can be continuously transported without passing each other, and the stable transport performance can be secured.
