Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain bidirectional wavelength (frequency) multiplex communication among multipoints by using an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer so as to form the optical communication system among multi-points. CONSTITUTION:An optical signal from a point A propagates through an optical fiber 1-1 and demultiplexed by an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 1-4 such as an optical fiber coupler. One demultiplexed signal is multiplexed with an optical signal coming from a point B by an optical multiplexer 1-6 and reaches a point C through an optical fiber 1-3. The other demultiplexed signal is multiplexed with a signal from the point C demultiplexed by the optical demultiplexer 1-6 at an optical multiplexer 1-5 and the result reaches the point B through the optical fiber l2. Moreover, the signals from the points B, C are multiplexed by the optical multiplexer 1-4 and reach the point A while being propagated through the optical fiber 1-1. Thus, the communication between the points A, B, between the points A, C and between the points B, C is attained. In this case, the communication is attained by allocating a different wavelength (or frequency) for the communication between the respective points without crosstalk.
