Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a mirror light weight and to improve its mechanical and thermal characteristics by constituting a base plate of carbon reinforced with carbon fiber impregnated with glass. CONSTITUTION:A material 2 for the surface of a glass mirror is bonded to one side surface of a base plate 1 comprising carbon fiber reinforced carbon impregnated with glass, and a metal coating layer 3 is built thereon if necessary. It is preferred that the material 2 consists of low heat-expansive Ti silicate glass or quartz glass, etc. having -1.5-68X10<-7>/ deg.C coefft. of thermal expansion. The material for the base plate 1 is preferred to be one among PAN fiber, pitch fiber, and rayon fiber compounded with carbon matrix, into which glass is impregnated and the carbon fiber is oriented in >=2 directions in the matrix. Further, the layer 3 is preferred to be constituted of Au, Al, Mo, Cu, or alloy thereof.
