Abstract
PURPOSE:To effect fine desulfurization with an excellent operability without need of a reducing column and a Claus reactor column, by contacting a high-temp. crude gas generated in a gasification furnace with a first desulfurizing agent and then with a second desulfurizing agent to refine the crude gas while returning by-products at respective stages or respective regeneration stages to the gasification furnace. CONSTITUTION:A fossil fuel such as coal and a gasifying agent (e.g., air) are fed from a feed pipe 6 into a coal gasification furnace 1, while a first desulfurizing agent of Ca type is fed thereto from a desulfurizing agent feed pipe 7. Thus, a generated gas contg. H2, CO, etc. is brought into contact with the first desulfurizing agent to convert sulfides contained in the generated gas into CaS etc. to thereby fix the sulfides in the first desulfurizing agent. Subsequently, the resulting liquid component and the generated gas are sent to a dust stripper 2. The separated solid component is oxidized in an oxidation unit 3 fed with an oxidizing agent 10, and then returned to the gasification furnace 1. On the other hand, the resulting crude gas is fed to one of two fixed-bed desulfurizer columns 4 and 5 (when one column is operated for desulfurization, the other column is in the process of regeneration), wherein the crude gas is brought into contact with a second desulfurizing agent (e.g., a cobalt oxide- bearing Ti2O carrier) for adsorption to effect fine desulfurization. The resulting refined gas 19 is sent to the next step. The second desulfurizing agent after the adsorption is oxidation- regenerated with an oxidizing agent. The generated waste gas is returned through a pipe 18 to the gasification furnace 1.
