Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain efficiently and easily in good reproducibility a polycarbonate diol free of degradation of quality due to additives, not limited in its use and having a desired reactivity in urethane formation, by heating a polycarbonate diol in the presence of water. CONSTITUTION:The reactivity in the urethane formation of a polycarbonate diol is decreased by heating it in the presence of water. The water present during the heating can be supplied by directly adding water to the polycarbonate diol to be produced or by blowing nitrogen, air or the like containing water into it, and it can be sufficiently fed simply by performing said heating in open air. The amount of the water to be added is preferably 0.01-5pts.wt. per 100pts. wt. polycarbonate diol. The heating temperature and heating time are preferably about 100-140 deg.C and 2-16hr, respectively.
